NAIROBI, KENYA
I've just returned from Nairobi, Kenya. It was very hot, sunny kind of climate; pictures are hard to take because the sun is directly overhead, as you are so very close to the Equator.
The slums are huge and ugly - don't go there if you don't have to. The center of the city is bustling, but not very beautiful.
The most memorable thing for me was the visit I made with some friends to a restaurant called "The Carnivore". It's like what it sounds - a place to eat a lot of meat, of all kinds of animals. The meat is served on huge skewers that the waiters carry. The variety of meats included: pork ribs, chicken wings, chicken livers, beef, and the very exotic zebra and crocodile meat. I tasted these last two, just to say that I had. The zebra was dry and tasteless; the crocodile was like chicken, but very salty. I'm not sure I would eat either one again. Especially after I saw the zebras at a game reserve, I decided not to eat the meat of such an attractive animal again.
Do go to "The Carnivore" for the experience, but if you're like me, you'll skip the wild African meats.
